Lakeville is a relatively small community of about 70,000 people. It’s a one of the fastest growing Minneapolis suburbs. It’s only about 20 miles south of Minneapolis but it has a small town feel. Lakeville is known for safety. It was picked as the safest city in Minnesota by toni.com and safecities.org and it’s also one of the top 25 safest places to live in the entire country. If you want to raise your family in the kind of place where people know their neighbors and kids freely play outside then you should be considering buying a home in Lakeville, MN. But safety isn’t the only thing that Lakeville has going for it. Some of the other things that make Lakeville one of the best places to live in Minnesota are:

Great Schools

It’s not surprising that a family-oriented community like Lakeville has great schools. Lakeville High South has an A+ rating, and it has the best athletics department of any high school in Minnesota. There are some private school options too but the public schools in Lakeville are great and most parents choose to send their kids to the public schools in Lakeville.

A Thriving Arts Scene

There’s plenty of arts and culture in Lakeville too. The Lakeville Arts Center has a theater that runs productions and special events. Touring shows and concerts also come in for performances throughout the year. Around the holidays there will be performance of The Nutcracker and other holiday staples. And they offer a wide variety of arts classes for kids and adults like theater classes, pottery classes, painting, mixed media, and more. There’s an Arts Festival every summer that draws in artists and crafters from all over the area.

Outdoor Activities For Everyone

Lakeville of course has lakes. There are two large lakes: Lake Marion and Orchard Lake. And parks. And many miles of hiking and biking trails. There are 62 different parks as well as a huge conservation area filled with hiking and biking trails. There are two large lakes with beaches so there’s plenty of water activities like swimming, kayaking, fishing, and boating as well all the other outdoor activities that are enjoyed by Lakeville residents. Lakeville is very pet-friendly too, so you can bring your dog with you to most outdoor activities in the area.

Historic Downtown

Downtown Lakeville is known for having a wide variety of locally owned restaurants. It’s definitely the best place in town to go when you want to find great food that doesn’t come from chain restaurants. There are some chain restaurants too, but those are more on the outskirts of the city. Downtown you can also find a lot of little boutiques and specialty shops selling locally made goods and hard to find unique items. Getting some delicious food and browsing through the downtown shops is a lot of fun, especially during the holidays.

Home Prices In Lakeville, MN

So what’s it going to cost to buy a home in Lakeville, MN? Currently the median home price for Minneapolis neighborhoods is about $350,000 but the median home price in Lakeville is $461,000. So it’s going to cost a little more to live in Lakeville than to live in the Twin Cities area but most people think that the extra cost is worth it for the Lakeville lifestyle.

Most of the homes in Lakeville were built in or after 2000, so the homes generally aren’t that old. For most of the 70s and 80s there wasn’t a lot of development in this area. Home buyers in Minnesota who are willing to buy an older home that was built before 2000 can buy an affordable Rambler style home in Lakeville for around $350,000.

If you want a two story home, or a newer home you can expect to pay around $450,000. Brand new construction homes will start around $450,000 and quickly go up into the low $500,000s. There’s not a lot of new construction homes being built so that keeps the prices high for those homes.

Luxury home buyers who want larger executive style homes with 2-3 floors and more than 4,000 square feet generally will start around a million dollars. A great neighborhood for luxury buyers is the Spirit of Bradenton Farms neighborhood. There’s a lot of nice luxury perks in this neighborhood like a neighborhood pool and a community room.
